Funny Word Origin

In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be
transported by ship and it was also before commercial
fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure
were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a
lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit
it, it not only became heavier, but the process of
fermentation began again, of which a by product is
methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in
bundles you can see what could (and did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first
time someone came below at night with a lantern,
BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner
before it was determined just what was happening.
After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped
with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which
meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the
lower decks so that any water that came into the hold
would not touch this volatile cargo and start the
production of methane.

Thus evolved the term "S.H.I.T " , (Ship High In
Transport) which has come down through the centuries
and is in use to this very day. You probably did not
know the true history of this word. Neither did I. I
had always thought it was a golf term!

and here I thought S.H.I.T. stood for "Sure Happy t
Its Thursday"!!

Help? Character Development

Hi Guys,
Not wanting to seem stupid, I have read alot about Irish history,
and English history, but I cannot figure out how to tie myself into
the crew of Blackdawn as an Irish Woman. For instance, if I was
Irish, would I still wear Irish dress if I lived in England working
for an English Family? How would a young Irish woman have come to be working for and English family in England in the first
place? Would that have been historically accurate? My character is a young single Irish lass, who spins wool, sews, keeps the "children" of the family in line, cooks, makes the medicines and soaps and such, and acts as chaperone/companion for Capt Frobinshire's goodly wife as he is away so often, and Mamma does often have need to be out in the town on family business.

Also, if I do adopt just this persona, that is the end of the Hysterical insulted daughter routine I do at the Court of Assi (sp?)
Someone would have to take my place..............Amy? Or we'd have to work out some other routine?
I'd appreciate anyones help on this, I am having a hard time of it.
I am working on a new costume for this season, and this will help me know which island to strive for, {{{GRIN}}}

Love and Light,
Kathleen

PS I don't even know if I can do an English Accent, not that my Irish is all that good.

So, er, hi

So far we all pretty much know each other here, huh? Makes it too easy not to say anything!

So I play the Princess- you guessed it- Qatana. I come fro a small country in the Persian mountains where my grandmother is King. Well she Is, We're J- I mean, we're very Gentle people, yeahthat's it. My country is called Zemlya Zhudovskaya, Land of the Je- the Gentle People. Da, this is right.
My Papa is Master of biggest carawan (see how quickly she slips into dialect) on all of Silk Road, but he is seeing handwriting on tent and is thinking of inwesting in Shipping, by Ship, as it seems to be much faster, and therefore entered into partnership with Englishman Keptain Frobinshire.
Papa sends me to watch cargo and make sure all fees are dispursed correctly. Why does he send me, delicate flower of girl, to guard cargo? Is sad story. None of Papa
s wives, on entire carawan route, can give Papa a Son. So he says, Ay, I have twenty seven daughters and no son to help me with my business, The next daughter to be born, she will be my son, and I will train her in business ans security, and so I am born, and I am raised to keep inwentory and protect ass. I mean assets. English is wery difficult language.
So I am here in England with one, maybe two of my sisters. English Queen calls me cousin, says I amy stay here in England but I must marry Englishman. And I am in love of poor Irish fiddle boy...is so wery sad.
